Panama Day Parade (Crown Heights)

Right on the corner of Franklin and Bergen, down the block from my studio, I was treated to a front row seat for the annual Panama Day parade. Crown Heights used to be the center of the expat Panamanian community. The energy, music, and costumes were incredible.

Hypnotic Brass Ensemble (Union Square)

I discovered an awesome band, the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, right in front of Union Squre. (Click picture to hear a sample.) They’re a jazzy mix of Earth Wind & Fire with some rap thrown in. Eight brothers, all horns plus a small drum kit, from Chicago. You’ve probably heard them on some Zero 7 CDs or with Mos Def. Great arrangements and very danceable!
LuLu as Loretta (Union Square)
