Lie Detector Test (NSB)
31.10.09 | 23:38 • Filed in: Art
Many gigabytes of my video, sound, and body data were recorded by artist Paulette Phillips in Room 17 at Atlantic Center for the Arts. Ever the cruel sadist, Paulette forced us to tell lies under threat of high-voltage electronic shock as we were strapped naked to a medieval chair. Do I lie? I lie. A really interesting art project actually, and I was glad to be data harvested.

Seth and Barbara (NSB)

While riding back from the beach I found a woman struggling to get her wheelchair back onto the sidewalk. After we got the chair out of the sand, she allowed me to photograph her with her Brussels Griffon on Faulkner Street.

Mein Baaden Meinhof

Coincidentally, I was looking through a catalog raisonée of Gerhard Richter's work on the 32nd anniversary of the biggest events of the German Autumn on October 18, 1977. I am returning to a novel which takes some of its inspiration from the tragic, misplaced angst of the RAF.

By the Beach Where the Living Is Easy (New Smyrna Beach)

Biking around the streets near ACA, I felt like I'd entered a William Eggleston documentary.
New Smyrna Beach

On my first day at Atlantic Center for the Arts, I rode out to the beach with fellow artist Daniel Traub and went for a swim where I lost my sunglasses in the warm, sunset bathed water.
Irving Kriesberg's Palette

A blurred closeup of Irving Kriesberg's oil paint palette. More about the 90-year old artist, whose work I have been documenting, in future posts.
Max Is Walking!

After a couple of weeks of baby steps into our arms, Max is proudly walking everywhere, usually with his arms out in true take-me-to-your-leader zombie fashion
Port Morris (Bronx)

Nary a tree grows in Port Morris, this industrial neighborhood of the Bronx near Hunts Point. Here it's all warehouses, autobody, construction, storage, oil refining, and potholed streets.
Locust Restaurant (Port Morris, the Bronx)

The prices are cheap and the servings are huge at The Locust in Port Morris, the Bronx. I've been on an intensive 3-week photoshoot, documenting the paintings of Irving Kriesberg in an industrial warehouse. Lunchtime has been truly a pleasure at this most unlikely diner-like restaurant with great, friendly service and a homey atmosphere.
