Max and Yours Truly

20090524_MaxandPaul-011
In honor of Max’s 9-month b-day, I took some portraits of him. This is an outtake from the sweaty shoot, shot handheld at 24mm. Note: we are not totally nude.

38 Witnessed Her Death...

LL-38-mockup for blog
Publicity stills for Lulu LoLo’s one-woman show, 38 Witnessed Her Death, I Witnessed Her Love: The Lonely Secret of Mary Ann Zielonko (Kitty Genovese Story), which will play at the Fringe Festival this August. She plays three characters to tell the story of Kitty Genovese’s brutal murder: Winston Moseley (the killer, left), Mary Ann Zielonko (the lover, center) and A.M. Rosenthal, the New York Times editor, who wrote a book on the aftermath of the 1964 murder.

Anything is Drummable

Vadrum William Tell
Drummers are usually pretty eager to show off their chops. Case in point: an Italian drummer who calls himself Vadrum, an alias for Andrea Valdrucci, who’s been improvising drumkit parts to tunes you never thought drummable. Above it’s Rossini’s William Tell (which he corrals with mocking triplet beats), but he’s most popular on YouTube for his renditions of Super Mario, The Simpsons, as well as many other pop and metal covers. He’s also exquisitely massacred another fine Rossini, The Barber of Seville.

25,600 ISO Test

20090508_ISO25K6_Test-1820090508_ISO25K6_Test-06
The performance is pretty remarkable for 25,600 ISO on the D700. I’m going to experiment with shooting in broad daylight with high shutter speeds and lots of depth of field (f16 @ 1/8000th).
